Today was the last meeting of camera Club No 2  which used to meet from 1.00pm to 2.39pm. Club 2 has been amalgamated into Club 1 meeting from 11.00am to 1.00pm.

Next Meeting - Monday 14 September - 1.00pm

Hi Everyone,

We have an interesting meeting planned for Monday,

After the photo show of your images on flash photography, we will discuss Flower Photography and Focus Stacking. Two of our members have researched and practices these techniques. Alicia Cook has put together a talk on FLOWER PHOTOGRAPHY, which Diane will present. Then we have a new exciting topic, FOCUS STACKING. John Nichol will explain how it works. Then John Nichol will explain the subject of FOCUS STACKING.

Focus stacking (also known as focal plane merging and z-stacking or focus blending,) is a digital image processing technique which combines multiple images taken at different focal distances to give a resulting image with a greater depth of field (DOF) than any of the individual source images. Focus stacking can be used in any situation where individual images have very shallow depth of field; macro photography and optical microscopy are two typical examples. Focal stacking can also be used in landscape photography.

Today's meeting

Hi Everyone,

Great Meeting this morning. It was either due to the fact that so many people came to the photo shoot at The Cliffs and wanted to see the shots members took on that outing. Or they could have come to listen to Peter Hardie's excellent talk on Flash Photography. Hands up how many knew how the shutter mechanics work on a camera these days??

We started off looking at the photos, of the recent trip to The Cliffs, sent to us by members. There were some excellent photos on display.

Next Meeting - Monday 24 August 1.00pm

Hi Members,

We have a very exciting meeting on Monday. First we'll have a look at Members' photos taken at our last photo shoot at Kangaroo Point.

Then we are very privileged to have Peter Hardy as guest speaker. Peter's Topic is on

FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY

Peter is a keen amateur photographer and has been retired for 2 years. He has made use of his new found freedom to take his photographic passion to a new level. Peter runs an advanced photography class for U3A Northside and also helps to organise the photography competition at the RNA (Ekka).

Peter has always enjoyed photography since the days of compact film cameras and more so in recent times since the advent of digital photography.

Peter loves sharing whatever photographic knowledge he has with others. He feels that the greatest benefit of photography is being able to see everyday things in a new light and from a different perspective. Transitioning from taking snapshots to creating photographs is very satisfying.

So it promises to be a great club meeting.

Yesterday's Meeting at The Cliffs

Wow, what a surprise we got when we walked up to the meeting point at The Cliffs at Kangaroo Point. As it is a public holiday in Logan City, we expected just a handful of members of each club. To our surprise a large number of members came along for the opportunity to capture the cityscape, the river, the Cliffs park and the church next door.  Then the local cafe did a good trade from our members.

Some of the more energetic people walked all the way down the steps to the river bank.

Next Meeting Monday 10 August - 10am

Hi Members,

We went on a Rekke under the Story Bridge and found no car parks, so we'll give that spot a miss. So, we're going to Kangaroo Point Cliffs where there is ample free parking on one side up from the rotunda as well as paid parking further along near the coffee shop.

So, we'll meet at 10am at the meeting place (SEE BELOW OF THIS POST).

Monday's Meeting

Hi Members,

We started off looking at some great shots members sent us for the Show and Tell Show.

The main topic we've talked about was NATURAL LIGHT. We talked about how to make best use of natural light provided by nature.

PLEASE NOTE

Our next meeting is on Monday 10 August, which is the Logan City Showday, so the library will be closed.

So, together with the 11 AM Camera Club we all meet under the Story Bridge at 10 AM for a photo shoot and maybe a bit of lunch at the story Bridge Hotel for those who are interested.

First Meeting -Monday 13 July - 1:00pm

Hi Everyone,

Are you ready? On Monday, we'll meet for the first time at the library.

Agenda:

Welcome and Introductions.

We'll often start with a slide show of Members' photos. Usually we ask members to send us three photos of the subject we discussed at the previous meeting. These photos are then shown on the screen  for discussion. There are no prizes for best and it really is not a competition. It helps everyone to see how other members create photographs. Don't be shy.

As this is our first meeting, we don't know what level we all are. For this, can you please email me three of your best photographs. Either recent or taken some time ago. There is no obligation to send any if you feel a little shy. But we would appreciate to see your pictures before you joined this camera club.

To send them, simply attach them to an email to u3acameraclub@gmail.com before Saturday 11 July.

Hi Everyone,

The roll is now open, to join the second Logan District U3A Camera Club. We will meet on the 2nd and 4th Monday of the month at the Logan North Library, Sports Drive, Springwood at 1:00pm in the meeting room on the first floor.

If you have not already done so, please email me your U3A membership number so that I can secure you a membership place in this new club.

Our first meeting is on Monday 13th July. The topic for the first meeting will be presented by Diane. We start from the beginning with topics we have already discussed at the 11 o'clock meetings in the past.

A Brand New Camera Club Is Coming to Logan City

In Term 3, on Monday 13 July, 2015 Logan U3A will start a second Camera Club each 2nd and 4th Mondays following the 11.00 AM Camera Club Meeting. This club will meet between 1.00 PM and 2.15 PM in the Meeting Room of the Logan North Library.

So in Term 3, we'll have two camera clubs:

11.00 AM Session and
1.00 PM Session

The reason for this additional club:

The Camera Club has now reached the maximum membership number which can comfortably fit into the meeting room.

Bill and Diane will go through the previous lessons over the years which will benefit newer members who were not present when these lessons were held.

Just like the 11.00 AM session, there is no limitation of cameras. Members using DSLERs, Bridging cameras, point and shoot cameras or even just phone cameras are welcome to join this new club. However, they need to be a member of Brisbane U3A. Membership is $40 annually and can be obtained on line at:-

There are no other costs involved in belonging to the Logan District U3A Beginners' Camera Club. There will be regular Photographic field trips to practice what has been discussed during our club meetings. On occasions, guest speakers will come and impart their knowledge on photography, cameras  or camera maintenance.
